Does an International student need to be enrolled during the summer (in the US college)?

I am applying for a college in the US. I wonder if I am required to enroll during the summer semester.

No. You don't have to, unless the summer semester is your first semester to study in that school. Summer is the vacation time and you can stay in the US without enrolling any class.
