  • The trends in selecting careers have changed big time. Gone are the days when the only option you had was to become engineers, doctors or scientists! These too, only if you were a good student, else you had no future. Today you can practically choose anything you want.

Take for example, the Bellus Academy in California where the students are donning the white lab coats and are studying chemistry in an advanced hair colour class. One might think something is amiss or something is seriously wrong. But these students are down in the hall, in the esthetics clinics examining different people’s skin under large magnifiers. While this happens in one hall, in another class, students studying reflexology and massage are pouring over anatomy diagrams.

This can be described as the new age beauty school. The number of people opting for careers in beauty has risen in leaps and bounds over the last three years. There are many more schools opening apart from the present ones. The numbers of these schools have risen up to 2000 or more in USA alone.

Earlier these schools use to be smaller and were privately owned but now big names like Paul Mitchell and Aveda are opening beauty schools. The cosmetologists’ scene has also changed over the years. While you still learn about the basic, nail, hair and skin care, now you also train in massage, wellness and advance skin care treatments. The industry has become more sophisticated now.

Some beauty schools also offer training in holistic healing, reflexology, hydrotherapy and much more. These are the kind of services one gets at the spas. Colleges are widening their horizons and making more space for accommodating such new programs.

One of the reasons to choose these professions that it is more reliable than the other career choices at the moment.
