  • Education system in the United States is ranked amongst the top most education systems in the world. Education is one of the main priorities in the US with children education being compulsory and it mostly provided by the public sector. Although the education curricula and other teaching policies differ from state to state where the educational standards and rules and regulations are decided and formulated by the state governments. The ideal age for acquiring education normally varies from five to eight and ends at around fourteen to eighteen. The children are divided into grades depending on their age groups.

    There are basically three levels of education: elementary, middle and high school. The elementary education consists of the kindergarten level and the twelfth grade is the high school after higher education in provided for specializing in a particular field. The fact that United States is a developed economy is evident from the fact that it has a high literacy rate where education is an elementary requirement. Public education is the most affordable system of education as it is funded by the government of each state. The universities offer majors in a particular field such as BA (Bachelor’s of Arts) and BS (Bachelors of Science).

    After a bachelor’s degree if students wish to excel in his field of choice, then they can choose to do the master’s degree and the PhD. A master’s degree continues for two more years after a bachelor’s degree whereas a PhD takes few more years to complete. Most of the educational institutions in the United States also have counselors who guide and advice the student’s right from the elementary level up to the higher school so as to ensure that the knowledge is well absorbed by a student. Parents also prefer educating their kids privately at home under the guidance of a professional tutor.

    The United States education system believes in overall development of a child which is also an initiative taken under the “No child left behind” plan. Apart from textual knowledge, there is equal emphasis laid on extracurricular activities such as sports, art and craft, music and book reading. There are huge libraries, playground, gym and a recreational room for such purposes. Teachers are also certified on basis of their teaching skills.

    They are expected to fulfill certain requirements when it comes to delivering the knowledge about a certain subject. Teachers should be proficient enough to understand the psychology of the students and should deliver information accordingly.

    Apart from the basic degree in science, arts and mathematics, the United States education system also offers degree in other non-vocational fields such as visual arts, performing arts, sports, media studies etc. Students are accessed throughout the academic year based on their grades in every subject. Some schools and colleges also have standardized tests such as SAT and ACT which are a part of their admission process. United States also has educational provisions for special children who are suffering from blindness, dyslexia or autism. Schools are also required to have a first aid centre.
