  • Our parents love us. And every parent has a different way of showering their love and showing their affection. Many a times, for many kids, it is through food that the parents show their love!

Food? Really? Yes and that is the reason why kids today, a lot of them, are already obese. If they not obese, they will get there soon. Even in schools across America, canteens serve fast food. And fast food is known as the harbinger of obesity.

Obesity is soon becoming a huge concern and therefore, Michele Obama, the first lady has taken up this issue very seriously. She is now getting involved with chefs across America to put together a healthy diet for kids and teachers alike. This initiative will adopt entire schools whose eating habits will be looked into. Plus there will be nutritionists and dieticians who would help the children to understand the benefits of good eating habits.

And the best part is, although this initiative is a serious one, because it caters mostly to children in schools, it is going to be put across in a very friendly manner. “It is going to be fun,” said a spokesperson. Known as the Chefs Move to School, it is in sync with the agricultural division of the US government. All the schools that are interested will have chefs come in and create healthy meals according to the school’s dietary plans. They will be in sync with the food budget of the school as well.

This is a great initiative actually. Many kids get fascinated with the fast food offered. They are quick and easy and we do not realise its side effects until it is too late. But this seems like a breakthrough now. Fast food also does not offer the required calorie intake.

Many children and parents think that because the child eats a lot, he/she must be taking in the right amount of calories as well. In fact many kids who are obese are low on vitamins and proteins as well.

The President’s wife stated that through this initiative, they are going to make sure that kids remain active and healthy. They will be able to concentrate more on school activities and excel in them.
She also added that they were working towards eradicating the epidemic of obesity.  Many parents agree with this statement made by the first lady.

Parents agree that due to the lack of time, they do not look into the nutritional value of the food content. And parents are not the only ones to be blamed. It is the culture that is prevalent in the society which has made fast food a norm.

Everyone is looking for a quick fix. If one is hungry they head to the nearest fast food joint or grab whatever comes. And this is the habit one needs to change. Education and health are in sync. If you are not healthy, however much you study; it will not help you retain anything. Therefore, eating right is the best possible option.
