  • President Obama and the members of his administration are working very hard towards making their policies effective enough to take care of the best interest of the education system in America. The President and his men want to make sure that America is back on track with the maximum number of graduate students by 2020.

According to the president, America can only prosper if the country has a better educated workforce. Although the president sees his goals for the development of the American education system and the recovery of the economy as streamlined, others beg to differ.

The American education system is facing rough times and the new policies initiated are causing a lot of problems amongst schools. This is because all of a sudden, they have introduced the nation-wide standardised tests. These tests have been accepted by some and others do not want to be a part of it.

Then a policy was initiated that required teachers to leave from district and public schools because their students did not perform well. Many were shocked with this policy because teachers with years of experience were asked to leave.

The problem did not lie in the fact that their students scored low but in the fact that the rules were changed by the new principals and authorities in school every now and then. This meant that every time the principal changed, they would bring along a new method of rules and regulations.

So this means before the teachers and students can get comfortable with the older rules, a new set of rules were brought in. This naturally affected both the students and the teachers. Hence, the students scored low and it reflected badly on the teacher’s expertise. But this fact was of course overlooked.

Another problem is the growing expenditure of education; especially higher education that has left many students in debt. And the debt is such that it will take them years and years to get rid of it.

Due to the fact that the cost of education is increasing by the day, many students and parents refrain from getting a college or a university education, simply because they cannot afford it. So although America has some of the best universities in the world, the American citizens are not really benefitting from them.

To fill the seats in these educational institutions, students are invited from across the world. When they come to America to study, they prefer working and settling down in the same country as well. Now when this happens, the regular American citizen loses his/her opportunity to them. And this is not going down well with the people.

Getting a ban on immigrant students to work in the country is not exactly helping either. Immigrant students feel cheated as they have come from their native countries to study here but cannot work because the government does not allow it anymore.

So what is President Obama going to do to solve these issues? It is not always the bigger picture that shows problems. If one was to look carefully, many problems surface. On a serious note, America and the American education system needs crisis management at the earliest.
