  • The role of political scientists is to research and evaluate topics such as ideology, public opinion, relations between foreign nations and our country and public policy according to US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In this field, bachelor’s degree holders find a lot of opportunities at the entry level. In political science however, most of the jobs in the industry require a master’s degree. After graduations, many students who complete a political science degree find a lot of job options.

Graduate degree in political science is offered by many institutions across our country.  Online political science program is offered by Virginia Tech says its website. This course allows students to conduct analysis and deal with topics such as public ecology, global security, research methods and contemporary political theory.

Political science with its immense scope is today attracting many students. This field is generating a lot of interest today. Some of the prominent colleges in our country offering master’s degree in political science include the American University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Fairleigh Dickinson University and Villanova University.

Students earning a degree in this field are required to perfect some skills irrespective of the college they study in. Research skills, mathematics, communication and excellent writing are some of the skills that professional political scientists must possess according to BLS reports. When it comes to data analysis and gathering, these students must also be very creative and curious.
There are no limitations to job opportunities for those who possess the above skills and also have a master’s degree from good universities. The next few years will see a massive growth in jobs that require students with a political science degree. This demand is predominantly due to a greater interest in politics, foreign affairs and public policy in our country.

For political scientist, the job market is set to be very stable for a long time to come. This information is published in a Cambridge Journal’s recent report. This report contains a survey that shows that number of job listings on a popular online job site show a eleven percent rise in the years 2010-2011 as compared to the previous year.

Many students found it difficult to find employment during 2009-10. This means that as compared to job applicants, the website showed more number of positions to be filled. The fact that students graduating with a political science degree found jobs immediately was reiterated recently by the American Political Science Association director of institutional programs Jennifer Segal Diascro in an interview with The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Last year at least 24 percent of political science graduates found temporary jobs and 50 percent graduates were placed in permanent academic jobs. In this economically challenging time, maybe more number of students can go into courses like this that offers sure shot job opportunities.

Those who have the necessary skills can choose the field of political science and be assured of a job right after they come out of school.
