What do you do if you are only allow to apply to 6 colleges and that's the limit?

That means make your choice wisely. I dont' see the reason why you have to apply to more than 6 schools. Out of the six, you should have 2 backup schools that you are certain you will get in and then shoot for the stars for the other 4 if you want to.

I agree. You should be able to nail down your choices to around 4 schools. Definitely have a backup school, but don't you get tired of writing ALL these essays for 15 schools?
