How do you schedule your classes for your freshman year? Do you have to listen to your academic counselor or you can kind of do your own thing?

Generally, an academic advisor will advise you to take a certain number of classes just to keep you on track as a freshman. I would listen to them and take the recommended classes and you may deviate from the plan once you are in your second or third semester.

They probably have you taking 12 hours. They don't want to load you the very first semester because the first semester is kind of like getting used to everything and you should just ease into it.
