  • Summary

    The Laboratory of Neural Circuit Modulation in the Department of Neurology at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking highly motivated and creative scientists. The applicant will join an NIH-funded lab to engage in basic and translational neuroscience research. The laboratory uses in vivo 2-photon imaging, electrophysiology and optogenetic approaches to better understand GABAergic inhibitory mechanisms that control neural activity dynamics in health and epilepsy.

    Job Duties

    • Plans, directs, and conducts specialized and advanced research experiments.
    • Evaluates and analyzes data.
    • Establishes new research protocols and procedures.
    • Summarizes research findings and publishes results in research journals.
    • Trains and supervises research staff and trainees.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
    • No experience required.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a related field.
    • Research experience and publication record (published, peer-reviewed first-author paper) in neuroscience.
    • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: Inhibition, interneurons, hippocampus, epilepsy, endocannabinoids.
    • Excellent written/oral communication in English.
    • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and collaborative research environment.
    • Basic data science skills (Excel, statistics).
    • Prior experience in one or more of these techniques: mouse survival surgery, two-photon microscopy and analysis, patch-clamp, intracranial EEG monitoring and analysis, optogenetic techniques, mouse models of epilepsy.
    • Coding skills (Python).
