  • Position Summary
    The primary function of this position is to provide excellent student support services for current and prospective students of the College of Natural Resources. This position will provide academic advising services to first and second year students, and first year transfer students in all CNR undergraduate majors. This position will coordinate on-campus and off-campus recruitment efforts.

    This individual will work under the supervision of the Director of Student Services. This position is expected to work closely with staff in the Campus Visits Office, Undergraduate Admission Office, the Office of the Registrar, Academic Advising, the Career Center, Academic Support and Access Programs, the Counseling and Testing Center, and other student support units to provide student services for prospective and current CNR students.

    This individual will develop and maintain positive and professional relationships with other CNR personnel, faculty and advisers and will communicate clearly and effectively on academic advising, student support needs, and recruitment and retention initiatives.

    Job Duties/Responsibilities
    - Providing academic advising to first and second year CNR students and first year CNR transfer students as assigned by the Director;

    - Monitoring, updating and evaluating the academic records of active natural resources advisee assignments;

    - Researching, interpreting and explaining academic rules, policies, and procedures to undergraduate CNR students, including the policies for changing registrations, substitutions and waivers, curriculum changes, graduation;

    - Remaining up-to-date on University and CNR curricular changes, communicating those changes to current and prospective students; and high school and community college partners;

    - Monitoring the early warning lists, the mid-term grades lists and the lists of CNR students on academic probation, intervening as necessary;

    - Working with Registrar to prepare semester CNR course schedules (time schedules), making college-wide departmental changes to catalog following university procedure;

    - Presenting information to current CNR students on financial aid and scholarship options, opportunities, and requirements;

    - Presenting information to current CNR students on seasonal and permanent job announcements and internships;

    - Managing appeal process for financial aid disqualification, including the creation of reasonable study plans;

    - Reviewing scholarship applications and making recommendations on scholarship recipients;

    - Serving as the CNR representative on the University Commencement Committee;

    - Verifying completion of graduation requirements for undergraduate and certificate degree applicants and processing graduation applications through BANNER in partnership with Director;

    - Making ‘reader cards’ for students participating in commencement exercises;

    - Compiling and distributing to program leads, Director of Student Services and Associate Dean lists of eligible award recipients for college and university award committees and for consideration of national awards (Award for Excellence, Outstanding Graduating Senior, Morris Udall, Barry M Goldwater);

    - Supporting CNR engagement programs such as the Career Series, the Welcome Back BBQ, and Commencement day activities;

    - Maintaining a close working relationship with and knowledge of the Office of Admissions, Student Financial Aid & Scholarships, Career Center, Office of the Registrar, Academic Advising, Academic Support and Assistance Programs, Veterans Affairs, Office of Multicultural Diversity, Dean of Students, University Housing, all academic departments within CNR, and other key student support service offices in order to better serve current CNR students.
