    Purpose of Position
    The College of Engineering at the University of Texas at Tyler (UT Tyler) invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair for the Department of Chemical Engineering. The proposed Department of Chemical Engineering will be established in the fall of 2019 pending approval by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The College seeks a dynamic and pioneering leader and faculty members to help establish the new Department of Chemical Engineering. The Bachelor’s of Science in Chemical Engineering has been approved by the University of Texas System Board of Regents and is under staff review by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Thanks to the generosity of a valued donor, a seven-figure founding gift will aid in the establishment of the department, recruitment of students, and recruitment of faculty. To accelerate the inauguration of the department, cluster hires will be considered should the chair candidate be able to attract strong tenured or tenure-track faculty applicants. Existing office, laboratory, and classroom spaces as well as other resources have been committed.

    The Chair reports to the Dean of the College of Engineering and is responsible for administrative, budgetary, and personnel decisions within the Department. The Chair will be responsible for overseeing curriculum issues, facility planning and program implementation, will serve as a mentor and evaluator of the faculty and staff, and must facilitate a collegial and productive work environment for faculty, staff, and students. The Chair should be an innovative and visionary leader who is committed to excellence in undergraduate education and enhancing the diversity of the department's faculty and students. The chair is expected to lead the faculty and students in their quest for excellence in education and research, and to create a vision and long-term goals for the department. The Chair is responsible for instituting and working with an Industrial Advisory Council, and building relationships with supporters and alumni. The candidate is expected to qualify for a tenured position in the department at the rank of Professor, although exceptionally well-qualified candidates at the rank of Associate Professor will be considered.

    UT Tyler offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate degrees, including the BSME and MSME programs. UT Tyler offers courses at its three campuses in East Texas and at the Houston Engineering Center.     Required Qualifications
    - Ph.D. in CHemical Engineering, or a closely related field

    - Teaching and research experience and accomplishments qualifying for appointment as a tenured full professor, althrough exceptionally well-qualified candidates qualifying at the associate professor level will be considered.

    - A proven record of excellence in teaching, research and service

    - Excellent oral and written communication skills, specifically with academic and industry constituents

    Preferred Qualifications
    - Experience with CHENG cirriculum development

    - Experience in team work, conflict resolution, and negotiating solutions with a culture of acceptance and collegiality

    - Leadership experience in service to the profession and academia

    - Experience with fiscal management and budget responsibilities

    - Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of faculty, staff and students
