  • Primary Purpose of Position
    This position is the Building Services Second Shift Crew Leader assigned to the Kennedy zone, responsible for overseeing personnel and procedures of all second shift activities of the Building Services unit as building and programmatic needs dictate. Responsible for late afternoon/evening crew leadership in the absence of the Building Services Supervisor. To maintain clean and sanitary conditions in classrooms, labs, lecture halls, offices, common areas, restrooms and various other areas within Academic, Athletic, and Administrative buildings on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

    Minimum Education/Experience
    Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, two years of experience demonstrating the ability to operate specialized floor-cleaning or other cleaning equipment and in performing medium to heavy physical work; or three years of experience as a housekeeper; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

    Essential Job Duties
    The Building Environmental Services Crew Leader performs under the direction of the Building Environmental Services (BES) Kennedy Zone Supervisor.

    1. Maintain equipment inventory and repair records.
    2. Compile maintenance checklist and report needs to BES Zone Supervisor.
    3. Complete individual duties and responsibilities as assigned; check the work of other crew members and correct deficiencies.
    4. Test and suggest recommendations on supply and equipment purchases.

    Other Work Responsibilities
    1. Demonstrate the proper use of and instruct team members in the proper use and care of all manual and power equipment and chemicals required in floor maintenance, housekeeping, recycling, event support, and exterior litter removal functions.
    2. Adhere to encourage crew members to follow established Facilities Management Department, UNC Charlotte University and State Policies and Procedures.
    3. Perform other duties as assigned and/or delegated to support all operations.

    Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
    1. High school diploma or GED equivalency.
    2. Two years’ experience demonstrating the ability to operate specialized floor-cleaning or other cleaning equipment and in performing medium to heavy physical work; or three years of experience as a housekeeper; or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required.
    3. Ability to properly use and care for all manual and power equipment and chemicals required in Building Environmental Services and floor care functions.
    4. Supervisory experience desired.
    5. Strong customer service orientation.
    6. Ability to effectively communicate the English language (reading, writing, interpretation and comprehension) required.
    7. Effective skills in verbal, written and interpersonal communications required.
    8. Computer literate.
    9. Knowledge and skill with Google Chrome, Microsoft Word and Excel, and willingness to learn new programs required.
    10. Ability to effectively work/interact with persons from different backgrounds and cultures.
    11. Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.
    12. The selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
