  • Position Summary:
    Full-time, tenured position at the rank of Full Professor and Chair in the Department of Visual Communication and Technology Education (VCTE). Start date is July 1, 2020.

    The Chair provides direction and leadership to facilitate and strengthen teaching, research, and service missions. The Chair will promote and guide new initiatives and provide professional, intellectual, and administrative leadership. The chair must have the ability to communicate effectively across disciplines and at all levels of the university and facilitate open and inclusive dialogue with faculty and staff through processes outlined by faculty governance procedures.

    The Chair will report directly to the Dean and collaborate with colleagues within the Department and across the College to: develop and communicate a strategic vision for the Department; serve as an advocate for the Department and elevate its stature by encouraging the development of productive programmatic partnerships across disciplines within the Department and across the College and University; position the Department for future success by mentoring and supporting faculty. The successful candidate will be an intellectual leader and a distinguished teacher, scholar, and innovator who brings a passion for students, research and service, and will demonstrate effective interpersonal and managerial skills and a commitment to undergraduate and graduate education by maintaining a high-quality learning environment for students.

    Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities:
    - Leading program & curriculum development, recruitment, retention, and quality instruction
    - Coordinating and supervising department programs, reviews, accreditation and assessment
    - Performance evaluations and professional development of faculty and staff
    - Leading in developing and encouraging scholastic activities connected to publication, exhibits, and external funding through collaborations
    - Supporting development efforts for external gifts
    - Implementing the University’s Affirmative Action Plan as it relates to personnel decisions and to the development of collegiality among department faculty from diverse backgrounds
    - Communicating departmental needs and desires to the Dean and Provost
    - Supervising the departmental budget, record keeping, and the requisition of supplies, equipment, materials, and other instructional needs
    - Developing and assuring compliance with procedures for resolving student complaints about faculty, courses and/or programs
    Minimum Qualifications & Salary:
    Minimum Qualifications:
    - The applicant must have an earned Ph.D. degree in fields such as computer science or computing technology, emerging technology, emerging media or other degrees related to advances in visual communication and/or applied computing technologies.
    - The applicant must have a professional record commensurate with appointment at the rank of full professor. Please see the full professor requirements at
    - The applicant must have a proven record of teaching and developing courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level in areas related to study and design of applying technology to develop products.
    - Skills or experience in administration such as oversite of academic programs, implementing rules and procedures, budgeting, collaborative development of procedures, strategic planning, program development and planning, personnel management and supervision, and workload planning.
    - Experience in leading service, program, research, or other activities at the department, college, university, and/or professional levels.
