    North Dakota State University’s School of Design, Architecture + Art is seeking an experienced Design professional to manage and oversee the woodshop and makers space factifies within the school. These facilities are primarily located in our NDSU downtown campus that serves students and faculty in the following program areas: Architecture, Art Education, Emergency Management, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, Apparel and Retail Merchandising, Studio Arts, Graphic Design and Product Design.

    This position will direct and supervise design fabrication operations on a day-to-day basis, providing maintenance, training, and instruction as needed to ensure a safe, educational working environment. Additionally, this individual will design and implement a new Design Fabrication space featuring woodshop equipment, CNC, laser cutters, and 3D printers, consolidating existing equipment spread across three different labs to one expanded showcase space. In addition, this position will have the potential to teach credited courses and/or workshops to the general student population.

    Work Schedule:

    The Design Technology position is a 10-month, full-time, benefited staff position starting August 15th 2025.

    Hiring Range:

    $42,243 - $50,000 +DOE

    Pay is based on several factors, including budget, labor market, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and/or certification and other business considerations.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Art, Design, Landscape Architecture or a bachelor's degree plus experience within a professional design environment.
    Professional level experience in a lab or shop environment
    Excellent oral and verbal skills
    Demonstrated ability to facilitate a collaborative, inclusive, and welcoming community
    Strong organizational and time management skills including ability to prioritize work, attend to details, and meet deadlines.
    Ability to evaluate policies and regulations, exercise good judgment in interpretation and application, and analyze different situations / challenges to resole problems.
    Preferred Qualifications:

    Experience in a Higher Education Fabrication Lab or Shop environment
    Experience in a making or fabrication lab setting utilizing, preparing, repairing, and maintaining digital and analog equipment.
    2+ years of experience in the field of design, fabrication, and/or manufacturing
    Teaching experience in community or higher education.
