Job Summary:
The Career Consultant is responsible for supporting the TCU Career Center by coaching College of Science & Engineering undergraduate and graduate students on career preparation and development; coordinating with College of Science & Engineering Dean, faculty and staff and employer relations counterpart in developing and presenting career development programs and determining career opportunities for students.
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
1. Serves as the Career Services liaison to the College of Science & Engineering by providing 1:1 consultation with students regarding career development topics such as career exploration, job/internship search strategies, interview preparation, networking, job offers and salary negotiations.
2. Creates a presence within College of Science & Engineering by promoting services to students, proactively establishing and maintaining relationships with the Dean, faculty and staff; attends college and department specific meetings/events.
3. Educates College of Science & Engineering students on career-related topics by planning and implementing college/department specific workshops, classroom presentations, and student organization presentations.
4. Delivers forward-thinking career readiness initiatives for the College of Science & Engineering. Serves as a resource for students and faculty by providing support for and attending department, college, and university-wide focused programming including networking nights, on-campus workshops, career expos, employer site visits and other experiential events.
5. Evaluates and adopts emerging career development technologies and practices. Collaborates with internal stakeholders- student groups, signature programs, and Dean/faculty- to embed career readiness into the broader student experience. Collaborates with Dean/faculty/staff to obtain first destination career outcomes for graduating seniors.
6. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
• Master’s Degree (e.g. Higher Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, Career Development or a related field)
• 2 years of experience in a university setting, working with students/faculty, or related science and/or engineering industry experience.
Preferred Education & Experience:
• Experience working in a Career Center.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Knowledge of communications, presentations and interpersonal relationship techniques.
• Knowledge of career development theory.
• Knowledge of customer service techniques.
• Knowledge of career management platforms (Handshake)
• Knowledge of social media techniques and ability to stay abreast of best practices in social media.
• Skill in career advising/coaching.
• Skill in some or all components of Microsoft Office, Social Media (LinkedIn).
• Ability to administer and interpret career assessment instruments, (Focus 2, MBTI, Strong Interest Inventory).
• Ability to establish priorities and coordinate projects.
