  • Brief Summary of Work for this Position
    This position plays a critical role in managing faculty and staff human resources and financial operations within the College. Responsibilities include the day-to-day review and approval of student hiring actions (EPAFs) and serving as the Faculty Load and Compensation (FLAC) Manager for all overload and supplemental faculty assignments. The role works closely with departmental administrative staff to ensure accurate assignment entry, respond to technical inquiries, and manage monthly timelines related to hiring and compensation processes. Additionally, the position oversees HR documentation for EHRA/EPS employee changes and serves as the departmental budget approver for all hiring actions, compensation adjustments, and position control activities. The Business Officer also handles all paperwork applicable for dual employment payments.

    Financial responsibilities include performing reconciliations across multiple funding sources, training staff on managing trust and receipt-supported funds, developing templates and process documentation. The position also supports the creation and maintenance of standardized monthly financial reports for Department Chairs.

    The Business Officer partners with the Assistant Dean on complex financial planning and reporting tasks, including multi-year budget development, funding model creation, accreditation-related reporting, capital planning, and special projects. The position also assists in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures that align with University policies while supporting the operational needs of the College.

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
    Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or related business area and two years of administrative management or business management experience or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
    Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
    A bachelor’s degree with at least three years of work experience in these areas
    Knowledge of Ellucian Banner or demonstrated experience on a similar scale ERP system with an ability to quickly and effectively learn Banner
    Experience using SSRS reporting environments, or a demonstrated experience with similar SQL-based reporting environments
    Knowledge of UNCW or UNC system financial and personnel policies and practices or a demonstrated experience in a complex university environment
    Excellent oral and written communication skills
    Ability to multi-task and meet short deadlines

    Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
    UNCW’s College of Science and Engineering (CSE) programs in mathematics and statistics, computer sciences, natural sciences, psychology, and pre-engineering and engineering, drive innovation and discovery. The CSE Dean’s office supports all nine units in the college and provides centralized support and administration for all CSE faculty, staff and students.
    College/School Information
    The College of Science and Engineering offers a variety of programs leading to Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees, as well as Doctor of Philosophy degrees in applied coastal and ocean sciences; pharmaceutical chemistry; integrative, comparative, and marine biology; and psychology degrees. The college also offers combined bachelor’s/master’s degree programs in information technology/computer science and information systems, computer science/computer science and information systems, and B.S. in mathematics/M.S. in mathematics. To implement its academic programs, the college provides instruction and research opportunities in the natural and behavioral sciences, information technology, data science, computer science, mathematics, pre-engineering, and engineering. The eight academic departments in the college provide courses of study in each of these areas, in addition to interdepartmental programs in information technology, cybersecurity, and digital arts. A 2+2 in engineering; and 3+2 programs in computer science and electrical or computer engineering; and physics and electrical engineering, are also offered in the college. Post-baccalaureate certificate programs in environmental studies, applied statistics, and geographic information science are also available.

    CSE students work with distinguished faculty and scientists, use cutting edge technology, and conduct impactful research. Faculty-directed research projects empower CSE students to apply what they learn inside the classroom and laboratory to real-world situations and prepares them for a variety of careers or advanced study.
