Job Summary
The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program in the College of Health at Cleveland State University is seeking to fill a nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin August 17, 2026.
Primary Duties for the position include teaching DPT courses; being involved in ongoing curriculum development/evaluation; conducting and maintaining research and scholarship; mentoring/advising students; and providing academic, professional, and/or community service. This is an on-campus position.
Accredited since 1976, the Physical Therapy Department is a part of the College of Health. The DPT Program actively engages students in the educational process and provides an energetic, collegial, and supportive academic environment within the University and the dynamic Cleveland biomedical community. Minimum Qualifications
An earned research doctorate in physical therapy or a related field with completion of all requirements for the Ph.D. by June 1, 2026. ABDs will be considered for appointment as an instructor;
A physical therapist with eligibility for Ohio PT licensure;
A minimum of three years of clinical physical therapy practice experience;
The ability to teach core courses across the DPT Program;
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate and work on teams;
Evidence of teaching capability; and
Evidence of research and scholarship capability.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in teaching, especially in higher education and/or in physical therapy (e.g. full university course coordination, teaching in an accredited DPT program, graduate level teaching, and other teaching such as continuing education and guest lectures);
APTA board-certified clinical specialist and/or graduate of clinical residency or fellowship training program;
Experience in integrating technology into teaching;
Professional, academic, and/or community service and/or leadership;
Experience and willingness to teach a variety of courses across the DPT Program;
Evidence of clinical practice in a variety of settings or practice areas;
Ability to collaborate and work on teams; and
Evidence of excellence in research, including a record of presentations, publications, student mentoring, and successful grant activity.
