  • Purpose of Position
    The Assistant Director for Testing and Support Services of the Center for Accommodations and Support Services (CASS) supports the Director in advancing disability equity and advocacy across campus. This role provides strategic oversight of the CASS Testing Center, Assistive Technology Services, and American Sign Language (ASL) Services, ensuring accessible, compliant, and student-centered support. Key responsibilities include supervising staff and contracted ASL interpreters, managing daily operations, implementing testing accommodations and assistive technologies, and collaborating and advocating with campus partners to uphold ADA standards. The Assistant Director also reviews documentation, meets with students to determine accommodations, and helps develop policies aligned with CASS’s mission and the University’s strategic goals. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.

    Essential Functions

    ADMINISTRATION and ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Testing

    Oversees daily operations of the CASS Testing Center, including exam scheduling, proctoring, and coordination with faculty to ensure timely and accessible accommodations.
    Supervises testing center staff and student workers (e.g., note-takers, scribes, human readers), including hiring, training, scheduling, performance evaluation, and timesheet processing.
    Ensures secure handling of exams and implementation of testing protocols to support students with disabilities.
    Manages scheduling systems and exam security protocols.
    Develops and maintains policies and procedures related to testing accommodations.
    Coordinates with faculty and campus departments to ensure timely delivery of exams and accommodation implementation.
    Participates in documentation review and accommodation determination through the interactive process with students.
    Maintains confidentiality and ethical standards in managing student records and accommodation plans.
    Assistive Technology Duties

    Provide outreach and collaborate with IT, faculty, disability services, and other departments to ensure integration of assistive technology into learning environments.
    Oversee the acquisition, maintenance, and inventory of assistive technology hardware and software.
    Develop and manage policies and procedures for the use of assistive technology in academic and testing environments.
    Coordinate the evaluation and implementation of current, new, and emerging technologies to enhance accessibility for students with disabilities.
    Serve as a resource and advocate for accessible technology in campus-wide initiatives and committees.
    Ensure compliance with federal and state laws (e.g., ADA, Section 504, Section 508) and institutional policies related to digital accessibility.
    Conduct accessibility audits and receive feedback from faculty to recommend improvements for instructional materials, websites, and digital platforms.
    Maintain records of assistive technology usage, student interactions, and service outcomes.
    Prepare reports and presentations for leadership on program effectiveness, needs assessments, and strategic planning.
    ASL Interpreting Services

    Provides leadership for ASL Interpreting Services, assistive technology, including supervision of full-time and contract ASL interpreters.
    Manages scheduling of ASL interpreter assignments and ensures service quality.
    Oversees invoicing and payment processing for contracted ASL interpreters.
    Collaborates with university partners and departments to assist students with sign language interpretation.
    Coordinates with external providers to ensure effective implementation of interpreting accommodations.
    Maintains confidentiality and ethical standards in managing interpreter-related records and services
    Training

    Develop a Training Program to ensure presentations are made during new student/staff/faculty orientations.
    Organize disability awareness training and assistive technology training for campus and community stakeholders.
    Assist Director with developing workshops and specialized training programs.
    Program Development, Student Learning and Outcome Measurements

    Provide leadership for the gathering of statistical information for reports.
    Monitor database to manage clinical and service information for statistical purposes.
    Research programs, services, and resources available to students with disabilities at other colleges and universities.
    Develop assessment strategies that promote continuous quality improvement.
    Perform related duties as required.
    Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.
    Complies with all State and University policies.
    Other duties may be assigned.


    Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises Lead Coordinator, ASL Interpreting staff, and student employes as appropriate

    And carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's objectives, policies and applicable laws.

    Required Qualifications:

    Education: Bachelor's Degree.

    and

    Experience: Three years of related experience and training to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Occasional traveling required.
