Job Description
This research position combines hands-on research experiences with supervisory and management responsibilities in a collaborative research environment. The role provides opportunities to gain experience in clinical research focuses on improving cognitive and communication outcomes after brain injuries while contributing to lab operations and training.
The position involves human subjects research coordination, data collection and management, and research study implementation. Responsibilities include assisting with, designing, and supervising experiments, drafting and managing IRB protocols and compliance, and contributing to research projects investigating cognitive communication rehabilitation with technology for individuals with brain injuries or related neurological conditions. The role encompasses lab management duties such as ordering, organization, and data system maintenance, while collaborating with the principal investigator and lab members on experimental design, data analysis, and publication preparation. Additionally, the position involves training new lab members and providing day-to-day supervision of student researchers.
This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in communication sciences and Disorders, Psychology, Neuroscience, or related field.
Strong theoretical and clinical experience in human subject research.
Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment with multiple stakeholders.
Commitment to research integrity and laboratory safety standards.
Skills and Knowledge
Experience with human subject research and IRB processes.
Experience with REDCap or other research data management systems.
Familiarity with eye tracking technology or other behavioral measurement tools.
Knowledge of digital health intervention and artificial intelligence applications in healthcare.
Experience working with adult populations with neurological conditions or communication disorders.
Responsibilities
Human subjects research management:
Manage IRB protocols for multiple research projects, including preparing applications, amendments, and continuing reviews.
Maintain regulatory compliance documentation and coordinate informed consent procedures.
Data management and analysis:
Oversee data collection for intervention studies in cognitive-communication rehabilitation.
Manage research databases (including REDCap systems), maintain organized data repositories, and support data analysis activities for manuscripts and presentations.
Supervising and training:
Train new lab members, including both graduate and undergraduate students, in various lab techniques as well as lab safety.
Coordinate schedules for undergraduate researchers, provide research guidance, and assist with experimental planning.
Lab management:
Purchase required supplies, interface with vendors, maintain lab equipment and inventories, and work with department and university staff to operate within institutional processes and policies.
Ensure lab spaces remain clean, organized, and compliant with safety regulations to promote efficient and safe research operations.
Assist with technology systems and specialized equipment.
Maintain advanced research systems, including eye tracking equipment, recording equipment, and technology platforms used in assessment and digital health intervention studies.
Support researchers in acquiring high-quality data critical for experimental goals.
