Description of Work Unit
The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance (SMTD) at Colorado State University empowers students to create, collaborate, innovate, and inspire. Through teaching, creative artistry, research, advocacy, and service, we elevate arts education. SMTD has 46 tenured and tenure-track faculty as well as 55 contract, continuing and adjunct faculty. There are currently over 600 students in SMTD, with 375 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in residential and online music degree programs.
SMTD is housed in the University Center for the Arts, a nationally recognized state-of the art 350,000 square foot facility, that includes a 550-seat concert hall, a 275-seat organ and chamber music recital hall, a 320-seat thrust theatre, a 100-seat black box theatre, a 200-seat dance theatre, dedicated rehearsal, production and research spaces, along with classrooms, labs and practice rooms.

Position Summary
The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance (SMTD) seeks an Instructor, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor of Practice or a Visiting Instructor, Assistant, or Associate Professor of Music Therapy. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Instructor; or, may be appointed at a higher rank, or Visiting Professor, depending on the candidate’s evidence of a successful research agenda commensurate with a Research 1/2 university, and other experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, 9-month position with a start date of August 16, 2026.

Required Job Qualifications
Master’s degree in music therapy or a related allied health, behavioral science, or neuroscience discipline.
Minimum of three years of full-time clinical or clinically focused research experience in music therapy or an allied health field.
Evidence of successful teaching and/or clinical/research supervision experience at the university or equivalent professional training level.
Preferred Job Qualifications
Ph.D. or ABD (with Ph.D. completed by August 2026) in music therapy or a related allied health, behavioral science, or neuroscience discipline.
Current Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) Certification (or international equivalent) or discipline-related certification.
Five years of full-time clinical or clinically focused research experience in music therapy or an allied health field.
Evidence of an established or emerging record of scholarship and/or demonstrated success in grant writing or externally funded research.
Experience developing or leading community-based programs or research initiatives that connect the university with community or healthcare partners.
Demonstrated success in interdisciplinary collaboration across fields such as health sciences, psychology, education, or the arts.
Ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research, clinical practice, or community-engaged scholarship.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills that support teamwork, collaboration, and innovation across disciplines.
