Responsibilities:
Conduct, oversee, and analyze data from multiple complex experiments (80%)
Independently lead, execute, and critically analyze multiple high-complexity experiments simultaneously
Cell line culture and genetic engineering
Molecular assays including PCR and sequencing
Vector design, cloning, and validation
Biochemical assays including Western blot and ELISA
Design and oversight of new experimental plans and procedures (10%)
Drive the strategic design and implementation of new experimental plans and advanced research procedures
Develop and optimize innovative methodologies for culture and analysis of engineered immune cells
Synthesize complex datasets and prepare figures for grant applications and publication
Independently present and clearly communicate advanced scientific findings
Primary human immune cell isolation, culture, phenotyping, and functional evaluation
FACS panel design and use in cell phenotyping
Identify, prioritize, and validate novel genetic targets to enhance immune cell function
Conduct comprehensive literature evaluations to support grant applications, inform strategy, and troubleshoot experiments
Routine lab maintenance (5%)
Oversee essential laboratory operations, including resource planning, procurement, and workflow coordination
Supervision (5%)
Provide leadership, supervision, and technical mentorship to undergraduate research assistants and laboratory staff to ensure timely progress toward research goals
Essential Employee:
The successful candidate will be designated as an Essential Employee. Essential Employees are expected to report to campus during a University State of Emergency (reduced operations or campus closure) unless specifically directed by the Department not to report or if directed by civil emergency or medical authorities not to report for health and safety reasons. As an Essential Employee, you must report to campus even if the closure is less than 3 days.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology, or Cancer Biology and at least five years of relevant research experience in cancer biology; OR an advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in these fields and at least two years of relevant research experience in cancer biology (equivalent to nine years of combined education and experience).
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to analyze and interpret data and present it in a clear fashion
Ability to independently design, develop, and troubleshoot multi-step experiments
Cell culturing of primary murine/human cells and tumor cell lines
Experience performing assays on a flow cytometer, including multi-color experiments
Extensive mouse handling experience to include ear punching, irradiation of mice, intraperitoneal/tail vein injections, tail clips for genotyping, facial vein bleeding for blood collection, breeding colony maintenance, tissue harvesting and freezing, surgical anesthesia, sterile technique, and bioluminescent imaging.
Extensive, in-depth knowledge of cancer research
Experience reporting effectively on the progress and direction of individual projects using written and verbal English, to include proper grammar usage and accurate spelling.
Experience maintaining documentation and reports for data and procedures obtained from separate projects in an organized and logical manner.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Office and Excel.
Ability to work in collaborative environment and follow written and verbal instruction.
Ability to manage lab budget and ordering.
Ability to manage, supervise, train, and guide the research of multiple other individuals in the lab (undergraduates, fellows, junior scientists) such that lab research goals are met in a timely fashion.
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: $65,000-$75,000/year depending on education/qualifications/experience
Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
