  • Position Summary:


    At Stony Brook Medicine the Physician Recruiter leads the recruitment efforts of physicians in a complex, high-volume academic medical environment. This role is critical to supporting clinical and academic operations. Will serve as a key liaison between department leadership, medical staff, and administrative stakeholders.


    Key Responsibilities:

    Lead recruitment efforts for select physician and faculty positions across multiple service lines, including outreach, sourcing, screening, interview coordination, offer negotiation, and onboarding.
    Partner with Chairs, Chiefs, and senior leadership to define recruitment strategies aligned with institutional goals and service line growth.
    Develop and maintain strong pipelines of qualified candidates through direct sourcing, networking, conferences, and digital platforms.
    Manage sensitive searches with urgency, discretion, and a deep understanding of specialty-specific requirements.
    Analyze market trends, and recruitment data to inform sourcing strategies.
    Ensure compliance with credentialing, J-1/H-1B immigration, EEO, and institutional guidelines.
    Represent the institution at national conferences, academic forums, and networking events.

    Required Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
    Minimum 5–7 years of physician recruitment experience, with at least 3 years in a hospital or an academic medical center.
    Proven ability to manage multiple complex searches simultaneously across subspecialties.
    Strong understanding of academic appointment structures, clinical faculty recruitment, and medical staff processes.
    Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
    Experience working within applicant tracking systems (Taleo, iCIMS, etc.) and physician databases.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Master's Degree
    Knowledge of medical staff bylaws, credentialing standards, and GME structures.
    Familiarity with immigration sponsorship processes for clinical roles.

    Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
    Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
    Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.
    Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
    Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

    *The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.
