Job Summary
This position performs advanced (senior-level) financial analysis and reporting for Lamar University and Sul Ross State University campuses, ensuring compliance with Texas State University System (TSUS) and state standards. Responsibilities include administering financial processes and systems; developing financial models and data visualizations; reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting financial data; preparing reports and responding to information requests; and advising senior leadership on actions to address financial or regulatory issues.
The role may supervise other staff. It reports to the Director of Budget and Financial Planning and primarily supports budget and financial operations for Lamar University and Sul Ross State University, including the Alpine and Rio Grande College campuses.
Essential Job Functions
Coordinates the development, analysis, and review of financial data and applicable business, financial, and/or regulatory plans. Including the development and continuous oversight of the university’s annual operating budget.
Administers university financial processes, data modeling, and the financial systems developed to facilitate financial literacy, forecast future performance, or report to regulated entities.
Coordinate, oversee, analyze, and reconcile third-party financial reviews, including the accumulation of data, financial modeling, reporting, and monitoring of response including University business partners or vendors.
Serve as financial liaison for university business partners and university constituents to facilitate transparency, communication, and compliance.
Communicate and assist in training University constituents with budgetary principles and business operation procedures.
Ensure compliance with established procedures, requirements, laws, and regulations; completeness of data; and presence of adequate documentation.
Minimum and Desired Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required with a focus in Finance, Accounting, General Business, or related fields.
4 years of experience in financial or business analysis.
Desired Qualifications:
Master’s degree in business-related field.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data, analyze trends, and make recommendations based on findings.
Knowledge of financial analysis and examination procedures for regulated entities.
Ability to develop, report, and communicate business performance metrics to stakeholders and senior management, including external regulatory bodies.
Strong interpersonal communication skills to develop working relationships with university constituents and service partners.
Ability to leverage data analysis tools and techniques to extract insights from financial data and present findings in a clear and concise manner using visualization tools like Excel, Tableau, or Power BI.
Knowledge or experience with ERP data repository systems, such as SAP, Banner, Workday, etc.
Physical Requirements:
Current driver’s license and ability to travel.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
Job Conditions: The Senior Financial Analyst works in an office environment typically following a 40-hour workweek, although additional hours and some travel may be required during peak periods.
