    This position serves as Allergy and Immunization Program Coordinator and is responsible for and manages the patient care and compliance for a comprehensive immunization and allergy service at Student Health Services. The role is responsible for the development and implementation of related policies and procedures; student education and promotion; administering allergy injections and immunizations; maintaining allergy records and vaccine inventory; coordinating with community allergy specialists; and ensuring compliance with CDC, the American College Health Association (ACHA) guidelines, and the Commonwealth of Virginia immunization requirements. The role is also responsible for general patient care, supporting Infection Control, CQI, Risk Management, and peer review initiatives; assisting with medical and immunization supply management; and acting as a resource for clinic staff and contributing to the success of the department.

    Considerable knowledge of adolescent and adult immunization requirements.
    Considerable knowledge of Electronic Medical Records and computer skills using various Microsoft software(s).
    Demonstrated ability to apply the elements of the Nursing Process including assessment, developing nursing diagnosis, planning, implementing nursing interventions, and evaluating the nursing plan of care.
    Demonstrated ability to perform basic nursing functions and treatments.
    Demonstrated interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to communicate and engage effectively with a varying audience of constituents and departmental stakeholders while providing effective customer service.
    Demonstrated ability to administer and manage an allergy injection program.
    Demonstrated ability to efficiently manage time and work autonomously and independently.
    Strong organizational skills including the ability to set priorities.
    Demonstrated ability to problem solve, show initiative, and exercise sound independent judgment.
    Demonstrated ability to provide data driven projects, technical reports, and leadership to support other staff as required.
    Special licenses, registration or certification
    Registered Nurse, BLS for Healthcare Providers in Virginia
    Education or training
    Graduate of an accredited Bachelor of Science degree in nursing program from an institute of higher education.
    Level and type of experience
    Some experience caring for patients receiving allergy immunotherapy.
    Considerable nursing experience in a hospital or outpatient healthcare setting and ambulatory setting, preferably adult medicine, or college health separate from clinical experience obtained while seeking a nursing degree.
    Demonstrated experience effectively communicating and engaging with varying audiences.
    Additional Considerations (supplemental knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification)
    Considerable knowledge of the unique needs of college students.
    Considerable knowledge of administering EKGs.
    Demonstrated leadership and project management skills.
    Demonstrated ability to perform phlebotomy and IV initiation and monitoring.
    Considerable experience with inventory management.
    Demonstrated ability to apply telephone and in-person triage skills.
    Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
    Considerable experience in ambulatory care nursing; experience working with college-aged students.
    Considerable experience with customer service recovery and de-escalation skills in a healthcare setting.
    Certification in Ambulatory Care (AMB-BC).
    Conditions of Employment
    Given the nature of the positions in Student & Campus Life Services that provide support to student services and/or student-centered programs, the employee occupying this position may be required to work during a university closing as directed by their supervisor. These instances may include working from a remote location (i.e., telework, etc.).

    This position is designated as sensitive. A fingerprint-based criminal history check will be required of the final candidate.

    Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm and 10:00am to 7:00pm shifts during the fall and spring academic semesters and 8:00am to 5:00pm during summer semester hours.
