    The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Ped - Hematology/Oncology, is seeking a Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator I. The Clinical Research Nurse in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology coordinates and supports oncology clinical research studies involving pediatric patients. This position is responsible for ensuring protocol compliance, coordinating patient care activities related to research participation, collecting and maintaining accurate clinical data and specimens, and serving as a liaison between patients, providers, sponsors, and research teams. The role also supports regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and adherence to Good Clinical Practice (GCP), IRB, and sponsor requirements to ensure the successful conduct of oncology clinical trials.

    General Responsibilities

    To serve as coordinator for clinical research studies and provides support to other study team members for research trials, studies, and projects within the confines of the study protocols as directed.

    To support protocol screening and study participant eligibility determination, working with more senior study team members to ensure compliance.

    To conduct all study activities in accordance with the protocol, Institutional Review Board (IRB) regulations, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP). May provide quality care to participants and their families within the area of clinical specialty.

    To assist with the life cycle of the study from start-up through maintenance to closure.

    To coordinate and organize participant care including recruitment, screening, scheduling, consenting, conducting visits, and collecting various assessments such as adverse event (AE) information or questionnaires.

    To perform the informed consent process following GCP.

    To act as a liaison among the clinical and research staff, departments, ancillary services and the study sponsor to ensure protocol compliance throughout the study.

    Key Duties & Responsibilities

    Coordinates and manages clinical care activities for pediatric hematology/oncology patients enrolled in oncology research protocols, ensuring compliance with study requirements and institutional guidelines.

    Collects, documents, and maintains accurate clinical research data, specimens, and source documentation required for oncology research studies and regulatory reporting.

    Monitors patient progress throughout research participation, including scheduling study-related appointments.

    Ensures compliance with federal regulations, IRB requirements, sponsor guidelines, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards while supporting quality assurance and audit readiness for oncology clinical trials

    Performs other duties as assigned.
