Feds urged to support early education

Mid-Valley law enforcement leaders on Thursday called for more federal support for early-childhood education programs as a means to prevent crime.



The effort was organized by the law enforcement nonprofit Fight Crime: Invest in Kids Oregon.

The organization called on U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., and others in Congress to support grant funding for early-learning programs targeted at children from birth to 5 years old, said Martha Brooks, the state director of Fight Crime.
