Utah hoping to get $400M in education funds

Utah education officials hope to get as much as $400 million from the federal government by next May — money that could be used to improve literacy rates and make curriculum more relevant.

But to do so, Utah will have to beat out other states who are competing for the money. A total of $4.35 billion in federal funds is available through the program, called Race to the Top, which was approved as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act passed in February.
