  • Residency programs:
    Residency programs are designed to increase candidates' expertise in selected areas of veterinary practice and to aid candidates in preparing for specialty board examinations. The resident appointments are for one year. Based on satisfactory progress in the program, a resident may be reappointed for additional one-year periods, up to a total of three years. Residents may be required to rotate through College of Veterinary Medicine clinical and ancillary services on a scheduled basis, participating with faculty and veterinary students in diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of animal diseases. Typically, residency programs designed for completion of the specialty college requirements an are of three years duration. Residents are required to concurrently complete the requirements for a Master of Science Degree.

    Contact appropriate faculty members in your area of interest to see if they have an opening in their research group. Correspond with faculty members who have openings. They may wish to see unofficial supporting documents (transcripts, GRE, etc.).

  • Fill out the online application and remit the fee to the University.

    Send the statement of purpose to the Postgraduate Training Committee (address below).

    Contact all colleges/universities previously attended and ask that one official transcript be sent to the Postgraduate Training Committee (address below).

    Contact testing services for GRE and TOEFL (if an international student) and have them send official scores to the University Office of Admissions. You may have already completed this step when you took the exam. The department does not require GRE scores but encourages students to take the exam and submit the results.

    Ask three people to write letters of recommendation and have them sent to:

    After the Postgraduate Training Committee has received your application and all supporting documents, the application packet will be reviewed. The committee will decide if the applicant is admissible.

    Note: Only students with arrangements to work with a specific faculty member will be admitted. Applications received without this arrangement will be made available to all faculty for consideration, however, students applying this way are rarely admitted.

    Application materials should be at the University Office of Admissions three months before the beginning of the semester to which you are applying.
