Proposed education budget would not restore colleges' lost state funding

A proposed Education Trust Fund budget due for consideration next week by state lawmakers would give a modest 1.2 percent funding increase to public colleges and universities.
But it will do little to nix Alabama's rank as fourth in the nation for cuts to higher education.

Since 2008, the state has slashed funding for higher education by $556 million, some 28 percent, according to a study published in January by the Grapevine project at Illinois State University.
