Legislation gives Tech chance to compete for Tier One funds

Seven universities in Texas, including our own Texas Tech, soon may be competing for money from the state to help them become major research centers, aka Tier One universities, under legislation making its way through the Legislature.

A Tier-One designation is highly coveted not only because of the prestige but because such schools are usually first in line to get research grants.
