Teen summer jobs are an investment

THIS IS SUPPOSED to be the time of year when teenagers start summer jobs. In addition to earning spending money, they learn about responsibility and other valuable skills that help prepare them for the adult work world.

But the challenging economy is robbing many teenagers of what had become a traditional rite of passage. They are now forced to compete for seasonal jobs with older people who have been laid off.
