As Beauty Schools Grow, Chemistry Joins Curlers

AT the Bellus Academy in Poway, Calif., students in white lab coats study chemistry in an advanced hair color class. Down the hall, in the esthetics clinic, they examine people’s skin under brightly lighted magnifiers. A few doors away, massage and reflexology students pore over anatomy diagrams.

This is beauty school, 2009.
