Our view: State must keep commitment to education

Education funding has reportedly become a sticking point as negotiators for Gov. Bill Richardson and the Legislature's Finance Committee work to close a $400 million budget deficit.

Richardson told reporters Wednesday that they were "far apart" and he intends to personally attend the meeting next Wednesday, according to The Associated Press. The hope is they can reach agreement ahead of a planned special session, expected to be called for October.
