MIT Pledges to Improve Conditions for Minority Faculty Members

Institutional racism is the reason why there are so few minority faculty at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). You won't find such a blunt statement in today's report by a nine-member panel created in 2007 to look at faculty race and diversity issues. The exercise was launched in the midst of a hunger strike by biologist James Sherley, who claimed racial discrimination after being denied tenure. (See this Science story.)
