The buzz over Baylor University's hiring of Kenneth Starr as president continued Tuesday, even as he appeared at a Waco news conference formally announcing his selection.

"I pledge to you my energy, my active effort, in building on what our ancestors have built," Starr said after paying tribute to the school's Baptist heritage, emphasizing his own Texas roots, and joking about how hard it was to get a Dr Pepper – the Waco-born soft drink – in Washington, D.C.
