Recession Special Gives College Degree in Three Years, Not Four

Hartwick College in New York State is offering a new way for students to save money: by getting a degree in just three years rather than four.

To reach the required 120 credits to graduate, students would take 18 credits each semester for three years, or one additional class every term, said Margaret Drugovich, president of the liberal-arts college, in a telephone interview yesterday. Students in the program would also earn four credits each January for a monthlong term.
