State loses $400 million in failed bid fro Race to the Top funds

Federal officials announced the recipients last week and New Jersey did not make the final cut. Race to the Top is a $4.35 billion incentive program by the U.S. Department of Education to encourage states to enact education reforms. It is funded by part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
