Mayo, University of Minnesota join race to cure diabetes

The race to cure diabetes intensified Tuesday with the launch of a quarter-billion dollar initiative likely to stand as a milestone in medical research.


Mayo Clinic and the University of Minnesota said they would raise $250 million to $350 million for a joint "Decade of Discovery" pressing toward a cure of the disease.


Their goal, announced in Rochester and Minneapolis, echoes what Sanford Health officials laid out as a research mission in Sioux Falls springing from a $400 million gift....
