University of Mississippi Gets a New Mascot After 7 Years

University of Mississippi now has a new mascot: Rebel Black Bear. The bear with the big grin won out over two other nominated mascots – a shark and “Hotty Toddy”, a gray human-like character.

With 62 percent of the votes in the final poll, Rebel Black Bear was recommended because it has a Mississippi connection, according to Margaret Ann Morgan, a co-chariman of the Student Mascot Selection Committee. She also suggested Rebel Black Bear would appeal to children and would be unique to the Southeastern....
