Despite confusion, search for UMass president presses on

The search committee seeking a new president for the University of Massachusetts vowed yesterday to press on, despite an imbroglio over the withdrawal of a leading candidate and the abrupt resignation of the chairman of the university’s board of trustees.

The committee, meeting behind closed doors for 3 1/2 hours at the University of Massachusetts Club downtown, has narrowed the candidate pool to fewer than 10 applicants, who will be invited for a second round of interviews next month, university....
