UC athletic director Thomas leaving for Illinois

University of Cincinnati president Dr. Gregory Williams will appoint an interim director “in the near future” to run the athletic department until he can hire a replacement for Mike Thomas, who is leaving to become the AD at the University of Illinois after 5 1/2 years at UC.

Thomas replaces Ron Guenther, who retired from Illinois on June 30. Thomas takes over an athletic program at the Big Ten Conference school that has 19 sports and a budget of $74 million. At UC, he oversaw a program with 18....
