University of Florida president, who planned to step down, to stay on job

University of Florida President Bernie Machen will remain in his post despite a months-long effort by the university’s board of trustees to find his replacement.
Machen, who became president in 2004 and planned to step down this year, is staying at the request of Gov. Rick Scott and UF trustees chairman David Brown.
In a news release, Brown said Machen has the expertise to make UF a top-10 university, which has been a perennial goal for Machen and the Board of Trustees.
