Proposal would let students at University of Wisconsin be punished for off-campus behavior

Some University of Wisconsin System students who misbehave off university grounds could face punishment on campus under new rules that attempt to clarify the university’s jurisdiction.

If approved by the Board of Regents on Thursday, the board will ask the state Legislature to consider putting the changes into state law.

Off-campus conduct that "adversely affects a substantial university interest" could result in punishment, under the new rules. This includes crimes, such as sexual assault
