Youngsters gear up for college

SAN MARCOS — Nine-year-old Katie Leishman says she wants to be a judge or lawyer. Eight-year-old Walton Stanton wants to play professional football. Blake Larson, 8, has set his sights on science – more specifically, wildlife biology.

All of these children have one thing in common: college is part of their plan.

Lectures, term papers and honor societies might seem far off for third-graders, but the three Valley Center Elementary School students and about 100 of their classmates toured Palomar....
