Girl defies odds, earns top high school honors

The final straw for Anastasia Boyd came around November of her junior year, when her father told the family he got a job in Kansas.
He worked on oil refineries, nomadic work that paid well, but offered little in the way of stability.

But Anastasia had already made up her mind, just like when she decided to get her nose pierced last month. She wasn't going this time.

"What do you mean, you're not going?" her mom rifled back.
