A coalition of urban school districts wants to see more state education dollars going for education.

The Education Cost-Sharing or “E-C-S” grant is the state’s largest grant to cities and towns to support education. Municipalities then pass along the funds to their boards of ed. But municipalities are allowed to keep some of the dollars for property tax relief. A state law spells out how much ECS money must go for education. That law sunsets on June 30th.
