Tennessee May Buy Ailing Private College - Lambuth University

Lambuth University and top state officials are discussing possible state involvement in -- and potentially state acquisition of -- the financially troubled, Methodist-affiliated school in Jackson.

Among other scenarios, the exploratory talks have included the possibility of Lambuth becoming a University of Memphis campus, officials confirmed Tuesday night.

No decisions have been made, but the talks are serious enough that Gov. Phil Bredesen included an item in his newest state budget proposal....
