Teachers use green thumbs in the curriculum

Knowledge has been growing in an unlikely spot at L.P. Collins Elementary School over the past seven months. Since November, students have been tending a plot of dirt on the Blaney Avenue campus that they helped transform into a native garden.

While there are no edibles in this particular garden, lessons about the natural habitat, insects and science in general are abundant in the outdoor classroom.
