Childrens group makes its pitch for education funds

Taking a page from the "Wizard of Oz," a group of social-service advocates on Tuesday invited lawmakers to join them in a walk down the Yellow Brick Road and avoid red ink for programs that serve children, the disabled and elderly.
The groups distributed gift bags to lawmakers containing symbols of the brain, heart and courage sought by the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion, respectively. They'll need it, said Dana Naimark of the Children's Action Alliance, to "build a better budget."
