Miami Dade College overloaded with students trying to register

Trying to register for the fall at Miami Dade College, where state cutbacks have caused a rush to get into fewer classes, proved frustrating for thousands of students this week.

''Students need to be patient,'' said Juan Mendieta, spokesman for MDC.

Registration began at midnight Wednesday with anxious students immediately trying to log in to register online.

Able to handle nearly 2,000 users at once during normal operations, MDC's computer system was overwhelmed, sending many students....
